Skills Shortages Project

Start Your Career Here is a strategic project of the Riverina Joint Organisation aimed at addressing skills shortages in local government. Most Member Councils have an aging workforce as well as anticipating that the Eastern Riverina Region’s demand for skilled labour will be put under further pressure due to the Snowy Hydro 2.0 and Inland Rail developments. Like many businesses operating in rural and regional areas, Councils too are facing challenges filling highly skilled positions and need to look at new ways of addressing this issue.

Start Your Career Here, through a variety of youth-focused activities is a project aimed at encouraging young people, those attending Secondary School, TAFE, and University, to consider a career in local government. Member Councils are keen to contribute to the education, vocational training, and career development of students.
